Born September the 4th 1989 in Leipzig (Germany) I grew up and went to pre-school in 1994 and to primary school since 1996. In the year 1999 my parents and I moved away to Waldsteinberg where I finished primary school. Afterwards I switched to the secondary school at the Brandis Gymnasium and went there until I made my graduation in 2008.

Only one day after "prom" I had to join the army for whole 9 months. It was hard, the first three months we have been treated like dirt but well, that's the army. Still I wouldn't call it a bad experience; I explored a complete different world and gained a lot of experience. The last six months have been quite the opposite; working in a bureau it was no physical work like in basic training (except guard service).

Since I was a kid I had some sort of a passion for games, but not only as a consumer. I dreamed of creating my own worlds, making my imaginations come true. That is why I first tried making games with Microsoft Word and Excel, for instance a racing and a role playing game. Sure that sounds weird but that is how I first started making games. The following years I learned how to work with different tools and engines.

First I came in touch with the TES for Morrowind, then with the Warcraft 3 Editor and in the meantime I also programmed games for my graphics calculator in school. The games I made have been mostly clones, such as a Freelancer Clone with a Ship-Upgrade-System, different Solar Systems and Random-Based Missions. Another project was KOTOR and Gothic whereas the way to play them was equal. You have your hero and therefore many abilities to upgrade him with experience. The experience you gain in certain areas with an increasing difficulty, so only a level 10 character was able to visit dangerous areas. The fight itself was simple, a random enemy appeared and you had to attack with a skill and then it was the enemy’s turn. Although I sometimes think I should've had spent more time listening to what my teacher said.

But the real deal happened when Doom 3 arrived. This was the first game I did a full Modification I even released to the public and its name was Hell Island. It sort of started like a joke but became reality and I went deeper into the material. After the release I started my current and bigest project ever, Desolated: The Crying Fate. I have never ever had a bigger project before in my entire life and the mod isn't finished yet (due to some issues). Because of this mod and my passion and the experience I gained in all the years I decided to study Game Design. And well, I'm still in university and I developed great projects like Victim, Weatherman and Color Sucker. For more information just check the Projects window.

Except working on my projects I also love to play games myself for sure. But due to my studying I learned so much about Design that I am capable of many other things than just game design. My gaze not just fixed on a certain point, no, it is looking around to see as much as possible to become a better Designer.

But make sure you don't imagine me as a stereotype of a gamer: having my dark room, my pc, lots of acnes and no friends. It's the opposite, I love to go out, I love doing Sports and it is more than just a compensation. It's an important part of my life and without it I'd definitely collaps. I love stupid jokes, I love to meet my friends and enjoy life. Oh and I definitely have to mention I love cars, especially the way they're designed is very interesting. The car of my dreams is the Shelby GT500 Eleanor from "Gone in 60 Seconds" followed by the 2013 Ford Mustang, the 2012 BMW 6 and the Lamborghini Aventador. The only affordable car will be the 2013 Mustang, hope to be able to buy one myself in the future.

Okay last but not least: Why "DaveTheFreak"? I started having this name in a forum long ago and the freak in the name belongs to my personality. I sometimes get really crazy, I do so many different things and people sometimes don't get me at all for I'm not a simple person. So they call me freak sometimes but after a while I started to like being called such. That's why the artist name DaveTheFreak appeared in the first place and I held on to it for every project I developed since... and I will keep it for good.
